University of London students attend workshop on Venezuelan foreign policy ahead of model UN summit

A group of students from Royal Holloway, part of the University of London, attended a workshop on Venezuelan foreign policy ahead of the forthcoming model UN summit in which they will represent Venezuela.

The students watched the celebrated documentary The Revolution Will Not Be Televised which was followed by a presentation by the counsellor of the Venezuelan Embassy, Alvaro Sanchez. Mr Sanchez outlined the main points of Venezuela's foreign policy such as solidarity. The counsellor said: "solidarity is the cornerstone of Venezuelan foreign policy. If your neighbour is not prospering then you will not prosper. The most recent example of this can be seen in Haiti where Venezuela sent doctors, medical supplies and also cancelled Haiti's debt to Venezuela."

Another aspect of Venezuela's foreign policy is Latin American integration. Mr Sanchez underlined: "Latin American countries have a shared history, culture and language. These countries are uniting as never before to boost regional trade and build joint policies to further social justice and prosperity."

The students also had the opportunity to ask questions about foreign policy in Venezuela in preparation for the model UN summit. Mr Sanchez said: "It was a pleasure to address the Royal Holloway students on Venezuela's foreign policy. I was very impressed with the questions the students asked and I'm sure that they will do a great job representing Venezuela at the model UN summit."
The students are set to travel to New York in April of this year to represent Venezuela at the UN model, and they will also be meeting with representatives from the Venezuelan representation at the UN.
