New fact sheet available: Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC)

A new fact sheet produced by the Venezuelan Embassy on the new Latin
American regional group, the Community of Latin American and Caribbean
States (CELAC) is now available.

CELAC was officially launched at an inaugural summit hosted by Venezuela on
the 2nd to the 3rd of December and was attended by all 33 heads of state of Latin
American and Caribbean countries.

CELAC is a unprecedented achievement and illustrates the potential for unity and
cooperation in the region. The group is also designed to reduce US economic,
political, military, and cultural domination in the region. CELAC is proposed as
a more balanced and equitable organisation than the Organization of American
States (OAS) that has been largely dominated by the US since its establishment in
1948.

Agreements signed will see closer Latin American cooperation on a raft of issues
such as financial architecture, social development, energy, the environment, and
information and communication technologies.

The CELAC factsheet, along with all other factsheets produced by the Embassy,
can be found at the following link: http://www.embavenez-uk.org/fact_sheets.html
