President Chavez congratulates Guyana's President elect

Caracas, 05 Dic. AVN.- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, congratulated Monday Mr. Donald Ramotar, who won the general elections in Guyana, held last November 28.

In a statement released by Venezuela's Foreign Ministry, President Chavez remarked the success of the elections in the South American nation.

The Venezuelan President reiterated his will and the commitment of his country of "maintaining and developing even more the execellent existing relationship" between the two countries, "characterized by respect, fraternity and solidarity."

Such virtues represent "strong bonds of unity which overcome the legacy of division inherited from colonialism," the statement read.

Donald Ramotar won the election with the People's Progressive Party (PPP), of which he has been general secretary over the last few years, and took office last December 3.

Remotar, 61, has been Political Adviser to President Bharrat Jagdeo during his two terms in office.
