Last chance to see Latin American independence exhibition at the British Library
Visitors have their last chance to see ¡Viva la Libertad!, the exhibition at the British Library to celebrate 200 years of Latin American independence, before it closes on Friday the 20th of August.
The exhibition, currently held at the Folio Society Gallery in the British Library, traces the history of Latin America's journey to independence from Spain that began in 1810 and continues to the present day. A number of original texts and manuscripts are on display including Simón Bolívar's correspondence and poetry. The collection also explores the link between Bolívar's time in London where he immersed himself in the ideas emerging from enlightenment and the struggle for freedom in Latin America.
¡Viva la Libertad! also focuses on the progressive governments of today's Latin America today such as the Cuban Revolution, Venezuela's Bolivarian Revolution and Evo Morales's election as the first indigenous leader of the continent.
The British Library is the largest library in the world, holding over 150 million items in all known languages and formats.
