Venezuelan band Palemeras Kanibales bring ska and Latin fusion to Bolivar Hall

As part of their 2010 European tour, the Venezuelan ska band, Palmeras Kanibales, stopped in London to perform at Bolivar Hall to a packed audience.

“We have been to Europe several times, but each time we try to bring something new and perform at different venues”, said guitarist Emiliano Montes.

At Bolivar Hall, the group performed some of their most well-known songs, such as Chango, Cinco Siglos, La Ruta and Japanese.

“This is the first time I've seen people getting up from their seats to dance at Bolivar Hall”, said Monica Rey, a Venezuelan who came to see the band perform.  The group's style combines ska and reggae with Latin rhythms.

“We are proud of our African and Indigenous roots, and like to express this artistically through our music” said trumpeter Daniel Mora.

The musicians also thanked the audience and the Venezuelan Embassy.

“We are honoured to perform in the very place where Francisco de Miranda lived”, said drummer Armando Flores.

During their stay in London, Palmeras Kanibales also performed at Hootananny in Brixton and Passing Clouds in Hackney.
