Venezuelan Scientist leads ground-breaking marine life study
Dr. Patricia Miloslavich of Universidad Simón Bolívar, has led a 10-year study into the diversity and distribution of life in the world's oceans. Dr Miloslavich, who is also co-senior scientist at the Census of Marine Life (COML), provided vital research on species found in the Caribbean region.
The Venezuelan oceanographer estimates that there are over 230,000 species in the world's oceans and highlighted the risk to marine life from over-fishing, pollution and degraded habitats. Dr Miloslavich has also recently published a collection of articles on global biodiversity on behalf of the Census of Marine Life.
