Telesur expands to Europe, Middle East and Africa

Caracas, 04 Ago. AVN .- The agreement signed by the multi-state TV channel Telesur to incorporate its signal to the satellite Hotbird 8 last July 19 will allow to show Latin America"s reality to more than 123 countries from Europe, part of the Middle East and North Africa.

The information was given by the president of this Latin American television channel, Andres Izarra, during his participation on a program broadcast by Venezuela"s state-run VTV. Besides, he took the opportunity to explain its global expansion plan.

Among the nearest projects, the high official explained that it is expected setting up correspondents" offices in Madrid, Spain, and in Africa, besides one placed in Syria (Middle East). These would complement the world view that reporters in the Latin American continent provide.

Mr Izarra stressed as well that since Monday morning Telesur is already available in digital television for the Republic of Argentine. However, it cannot be seen for most of common citizens given the obstacles imposed by monopolies of the television industry in that country, regardless of the battle started by the Government of Cristina Fernandez to democratize the media.

Telesur was created on 2005 with the participation of Argentina, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

The goal of this television channel is to provide a different view from the events that occurs in Latin America, with stories told by journalists and common people who give a real perspective of the events.
