The Times praises El Sistema conductor Gustavo Dudamel

The Times newspaper has published an interview with El Sistema conductor, Gustavo Dudamel, praising his "electrifying talent" and "friendly, unpretentious" nature.  The 29-year-old, who now conducts three orchestras - one in Sweden, one in Los Angeles as well as El Sistema in Venezuela - spoke of his desire to be part of a generation that is making classical music relevant to young people.  Dudamel also spoke of the importance of classical music being accessible to everybody: "I am working to give the principles of El Sistema to the world's citizens. The principles that the arts are not just beautiful but vital to society".
