First Venezuela-Egypt Mixed Commission strengthens cooperation ties
Caracas, May 17. ABN.- The First Venezuela-Egypt Mixed Commission represents an opportunity to strengthen cooperation ties between the two countries in strategic sectors that have a great potential and could set an example for the South-South cooperation.
The statements were made by the Ambassador of Venezuela to Egypt Victor Carazo in the occasion of the meeting of the First Mixed Commission, taking place this May 17 and 18 in El Cairo, Egypt, as informed through a press bulletin the Ministry of People’s Power for Communication and Information.
The Venezuelan delegation in El Cairo led by Reinaldo Bolivar, foreign affairs vice-minister for Africa, is comprised by representatives from the ministries of oil and petroleum; tourism; culture; commerce; communication and information; science and technology; education; and foreign affairs.
The diplomatic relations between Venezuela and Egypt were established in 1950 and it has been friendly with some cooperation agreements endorsed on economy, technical matters, tourism, energy, oil, culture, among others.
Both countries expect that with the activation of this Mixed Commission new agreements will be reached, as well as the execution of joint projects on agriculture, energy, electricity, commerce, tourism, culture and education, science and technology, and information and communications.
Egypt is located at the northeast of Africa and is the country with the largest population in the Middle East (about 81 million people).
In addition, Egypt plays a significant role for Africa and the Middle East. The headquarters of some regional organs are in this country, the Arab League for instance. Currently, Egypt presides over the Non-Aligned Movement and takes the role of observer in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
