Ambassador Moncada talks about Latin America at SIPTU headquarters in Ireland.

Venezuelan Ambassador Samuel Moncada continued his recent visit to Ireland by speaking at a conference at SIPTU trade union headquarters, where more than 200 people attended to learn more about recent events in Latin America.

Ambassador Moncada mentioned that “the wave of achievements in Latin America have democratic aspirations and social justice which has been a large debt in the region”, he also added “however the national oligarchy have postioned themselves in such an antidemocratic manner, which has lead to military dictatorships affecting the achievements of a country”.

Ambassador Moncada also spoke about relations between the United States and Latin America. “The United States has a big responsibility at this moment which is decisive to Latin American history. Obama has two options: to support the reactionary movements of the oligarchies which has been the historical tradition of this country, or support the progressive and popular movements of the region”.

Jack O’ Connor, the President of the Irish trade union SIPTU thanked Ambassador Moncada for his participation in the conference. “The trade union movement recognizes the values of popular Latin American movements in their fight against neo-liberalism. Now we feel the weight of the world and these ideas, now more than ever we should reaffirm our common values and common struggles. Which we have to learn mutually”.

The trade union SIPTU expressed their support to the Honduras and against dictators.
