Photographic celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution is being exhibited at Bolivar Hall
For the last few days, great expectations have been building up for the opening of the photographic exhibition entitled Cuba 50 – Fifty years of the Cuban Revolution by the outstanding Cuban photographer Alejandro Gortazar.
The opening took place last night at Bolivar Hall, and the public was not disappointed.
More than 50 small-format photographs have been hung on the walls of Bolivar Hall, depicting daily life in Cuba.
Gortazar is a widely exhibited professional photographer with over 10 years' experience. He has travelled widely across the island photographing key moments, people and landscapes. This is Gortazar’s third international exhibition.
This photographic exhibition is sponsored by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC), UNISON, Havana Club and the Cuban and Venezuelan embassies in London. Gortazar’s photos will tour to more than ten cities across Britain or UK
Rob Miller, CSC Director, defined the exhibition as “"an example of what is happening in Cuba".
The Cuban Ambassador in London, Rene Mujica, also expressed his appreciation of the exhibition.
"Apart from documenting how Cubans live their realities, this exhibition also reflects in a straightforward and positive way the harsh realities faced by Cubans today”, said the Ambassador.
Gortazar himself was also thrilled with the event and thanked staff of the Venezuelan Embassy for their support.
"The objective is to draw people’s attention to Cuban issues. This is the reason why I am working on a new project about ‘Las Parrandas de Remedio’ (Remedio’s Parties), which is a cultural activity linked to Christmas Eve celebrations in the Cuban province ofSanta Clara ", said Gortazar.
This exhibition is open until Thursday, March 4, from 10:00 until 17:00.
