VENEZUELA SOLIDARITY CAMPAIGN SUCCESSFUL LONDON PICKET AGAINST COUP IN HONDURAS

Over 100 people attended an emergency picket outside the Honduran Embassy in London today saying "No to the Coup in Honduras - Defend Democracy!" The protest was organised by the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign and supported by Unite the Union London and Eastern Region.

Speaking at the picket, Jeremy Corbyn MP said, "In 2009, coups are wrong, an affront to democracy and against the whole unstoppable move to justice and equality in Latin America."

Steve Hart, Regional Secretary of Unite the Union, explained, "The British labour movement is horrified at this coup against Honduran democrats. We pledge solidarity until the democratically elected President Zelaya is restored."

 Francisco Dominguez, Venezuela Solidarity Campaign Secretary, added, "We cannot accept the situation in Honduras; the constitutional President Manuel Zelaya must be returned and constitutional order restored. The world must act."
