Latin American Film Festival in Bolivar Hall
The Latin American Film Festival opened in Bolivar Hall, last Thursday the 10th of March, with an excellent selection of films and documentaries to raise money for Chile.
The event was inaugurated by the Venezuelan Ambassador to London, Samuel Moncada, who expressed his gratitude for the support given to these types of initiatives. "You are always welcome, especially when it comes to the inauguration of this festival with a Venezuelan film from La Villa del Cine that has won many international awards: Postales de Leningrado", said Ambassador Moncada.
The film maker and director Sergio León also thanked the Embassy for making it possible to screen the "most select Latin American cinema".
León added that at first, the object was to raise funds for projects run by La Villa del Cine but "everything changed with the recent earthquake in Chile, now all the money raised will go to a school on the Chilean island of Robinson Crusoe".
As well as the screening of Postales de Leningrado, the audience also had the opportunity to see the Argentinian film La Suerte está Echada, by Sebastián Boren.
The festival closed successfully last Saturday with the screening of the Venezuelan film Maroa, produced by La Villa del Cine under the direction of Soveig Hoogesteijn
