President Chavez gives incentive for energy reduction
Caracas, Feb 09 ABN.- The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, informed on Monday that high energy consumers who reduce their consumption between 10% and 20% of their monthly energy consumption will get a 25% discount on their bill.
The information was given by the President together with members of his Executive Cabinet on the occasion of the decree on national electricity emergency signed to face the crisis in the country.
President Chavez explained that high consumers are those who consume more than 500 kilowatt-hours per month.
Similarly, he expressed that those who cut consumption by more than 20% in their monthly consumption, they will get a 50% discount on their bill.
On the contrary, those consumers who do not reduce their consumption by at least 10% in their monthly consumption will have to face a 75% price rise.
In this connection, Chavez expressed that those who increase 10% of their consumption will have a rise of 100%, while if consumption reaches 20%, the increase will be 200%.
Regarding the industrial sector, Venezuela's President expressed that high consumers will have to reduce their consumption by 10% during the first month and 10% for the second month, to reach an amount of 20%.
These measures exclude services as health, fuel distribution, security services, among others.
Those who fail to fulfill the measure will be informed by means of a notice. Recurrence will be sanctioned by suspending the service during 24 or 48 hours. If it happens again, then the service will be suspended indefinitely.
The regulation will also rule for public service entities.
