Persons with special needs as “revolutionary protagonists”
Nearly 400 classrooms specifically designed for disabled students are currently under construction in Venezuela and will be incorporated into the nation’s public schools approximately by the end of this year.
In March last year, the government introduced the programme “Mission Jose Gregorio Hernandez”, with the aim to take care of all aspects related to the health of Venezuelans with disabilities. As an extension of this programme, the first Genetic Research Centre was inaugurated in Venezuela in October this year, in order to enhance research on and help persons with genetic disorders.
These are only some examples of the efforts undertaken by this government to properly address the concerns and needs of persons with special needs, which, most importantly, have already resulted in real improvements in the everyday lives of disabled persons.
President Chávez made clear in a public statement in October this year, that persons with special needs are a priority for this government. “In Venezuela not one single person with special needs can be left without appropriate care. “, he affirmed.
Drastic transformations have taken place in Venezuela within the last decade and persons with special needs have formed and are forming an important part of this process.
Have a look at our recently issued fact-sheet (hyperlink), which sheds light on how disabled persons have taken on a lead role as revolutionary protagonists in Venezuela and will continue to do so in the years to come.
