Venezuelan trade union representative explains social and labour achievements in Latin America Conference in London

The V. Latin America Conference was carried out with great success last Saturday in the city of London, with trade-unionists participating and presenting from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Colombia and Honduras.

The Venezuelan participant, Eglé Sánchez, who is currently the General Secretary of the trade union for graphic workers of Venezuela, a union affiliated to the Bolivarian Workers’ Force, presented during the lunch plenary session titled “Voices of Latin America”.

Sánchez explained the social and trade union accomplishments achieved so far by the Bolivarian Revolution: “With a total of 5.017 unions, Venezuela is the country with the highest number of unions in the world”, and she added “In total 6.034 collective contracts were signed in Venezuela”. At the same time Sánchez talked about the Mission “Madres del Barrio” (Mothers of the Neighborhood) and about the inclusion of more than 3 million university students into the educational system in Venezuela.

The V. Latin America Conference was titled: Latin America 2009, Challenges to Win. Apart from Latin American invitees, renowned political and academic actors such as the MPs Colin Burgon, Heremy Corbyn and George Galloway as well as the former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, figured prominently among the participants.
