Venezuelan Embassy in London issues a leaflet on U.S. Intervention in Latin America
Did you know that the U.S. intervened militarily more than 130 times in Latin American and Caribbean affairs since 1823? That was the year when President James Monroe declared that these parts of the world would be under the U.S. “sphere of influence”.
This is part of the introduction of a new glossy leaflet published by the Venezuelan Embassy in London which contains five original documents of the US Government that clearly shows the hidden US agenda in the setting of seven military bases in Colombia.
The original documents collected in this leaflet are evidence for the fact that the U.S. semi-permanent military presence in Colombia should be of concern to all Latin American countries and governments. The goals of the bases go much beyond fighting illegal drugs but are part of a comprehensive plan to strengthen U.S. military influence all over the continent, as apparent from the U.S. Government White Paper “Air Mobility Command – Global En Route Strategy”. Furthermore, the U.S. Air Force Budget for 2010 clearly states that the bases are useful in “responding to anti-U.S. governments” and in conducting “full spectrum operations throughout South America”.
In addition, the leaflet contains a letter by US Congressmen Christopher Dodd and Patrick Leahy to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing their concerns about the military bases in Colombia and also extracts from the actual military agreement between the US and Colombia.
