Latin American community in London speaks out at Bolivar Hall

Members of the Latin American community in London attended a meeting last Tuesday at Bolivar Hall to address several issues ranging from politics and economics to migration and culture before a panel composed mainly by British government representatives (Watch video)

The audience had the opportunity to demand greater attention and consideration for the Latin American community, which according to members of the public has been greatly underestimated by the local government.

Throughout the evening, the members of the panel, from the country’s major political parties like Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrats and Green Party, unveiled the government's progress in favour of the Latin American community and its ongoing struggle to make this a fairer society for every honest, hard working person in London.

Meanwhile Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat MP in the British Parliament, said he will fight to ensure the rights of migrants in the UK.

Also Mr. Darren Johnson, member of the London Assembly, encouraged the Latin American community to unite and speak out in one strong voice.

The evening ended with a heated session of questions and answers, during which a Latin American solicitor from the audience expressed his displeasure over the lack of importance that local politicians give to the Hispanic-speaking community in London.

Finally Mr. David Schmitz, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party, offered a word of appreciation to the Embassy of Venezuela and Minka for organizing such events in which communities can make their concerns known.

Approximately 100 people attended this meeting, among them Mr. Raul Sanchez Atencio, Consul of Cuba, who also made a call for unity in the Latin American community.
