19. Latin American Film Festival kicks-off in the Bolivar Hall
The 19th Latin American Film Festival opened in the Bolivar Hall on Monday, November 9, 2009.
The main objective of this festival is to promulgate information about talented Latin American filmmakers through the screening of films and filmlets by writers and directors of the region.
According to the founder of the event, Mrs. Eva Tarr-Kirkhope “the idea of the festival emanates from the realization of an absence of Latin American cinema in the city of London” adding that “the Latin community is a community of well-off, hard-working people, with great virtues and able to realize excellent cinematographic works”.
In a similar vein, Mr. Janusz Finder, of Polish nationality, states: “I personally always have the dates of the Festival present, as the event presents a great variety of films” adding that “it is a pity that the local press doesn’t give formal recognition to the festival, although many of the films presented here have received various awards and in multiple opportunities nominations for the most important rewards of the country.”
In this opportunity and in presence of the Cuban Ambassador, Mr. Rene Mujica Cantelar, accompanied by his wife, the audience had the opportunity to enjoy two filmlets and a film by Cuban directors.
The festival continues until November 15, 2009.
