Venezuela speaks out about the US military bases in Colombia

As part of its annual university day, the Communist Party of Britain held last Friday a meeting in Croydon, near London, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Chinese Revolution, the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and the 10th anniversary of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Representatives from the Chinese, Cuban and Venezuelan embassies in London attended the event.

Alvaro Sanchez, Counsellor of the Venezuelan Embassy, spoke about the threats of the US military bases in Colombia.

“The US has agreed with Colombia to set up seven military bases”, said Sanchez, who added: “Nonetheless the real reason for such an agreement can be found in the 2010 budget report of US Air Force, which states that the Palenquero air base in Colombia is needed to keep ‘anti-US governments of the region on check’”.

Sanchez also spoke about the lack of political progress in Honduras.
