Successful launch in London of a book about Simon Bolivar

Thursday October 22, 2009

A numerous public followed an invitation to the Bolivar Hall in London in order to assist in the book launch Hugo Chavez presents Simon Bolivar, The Bolivarian Revolution by the editorial Verso (2009). The book presents a series of original historical documents written by Bolivar and translated into English.

The introduction of this book was written by the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chavez. In this even participated as main presenters: Samuel Moncada, Venezuelan Ambassador in London; Tariq Ali, writer and filmmaker; and Matthew Brown, editor of the book and Professor of Latin American Studies of the University of Bristol.

Ambassador Moncada offered a historical synopsis of the independence struggle of Simon Bolivar during the 19. Century and explained that this same struggle still has relevance in the current political context of Venezuela and Latin America.

“Anti-imperialism is the root of Bolivarian thinking”, affirmed Moncada. Professor Brown recommended the book for its precision and easy accessibility.

Finally, the renowned writer Tariq Ali talked about the influence of the American Revolution (1775-1783) and the French Revolution (1789-1799). “The success of these revolutions inspired Bolivar in the liberation of South America”, affirmed Ali.

Furthermore, Ali added that different from other nationalist leaders in other parts of the World, Bolivar did not confine himself to a geographically limited space but he expanded into nearly all Latin America.

The event concluded with a reception where the public had a chance to meet the presenters.
