Diana Raby of the University of Liverpool awarded prize by President Chavez
There is currently in Venezuela an extensive bibliography about the Bolivarian Revolution, Socialism and Latin American progressive movements. Therefore, to receive an award for research on these topics is quite an accomplishment.
This is the case of Diana Raby, Professor at the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Liverpool , who wrote the book ‘Democracy and Revolution: Latin America and Socialism Today’ (Pluto Press, 2006).
The Spanish-language edition of Raby's book, published by Monte Ávila Editores in Caracas, received an honorary mention in the Liberator Prize for Critical Thought for 2008.
Raby received her certificate from President Chávez in person at an event last week that took place in the Teresa Carreño Theatre in Caracas.
Raby has written extensively on current political issues in Venezuela and Latin America as a whole, as well as on Portugal.
In addition, Raby is a committed supporter of solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution in the United Kingdom
The Hungarian-born writer Istvan Metzaros won the first prize with his book ‘The Challenge and Burden of Historical Time: Socialism in the XXI Century’.
The Liberator Prize for Critical Thought was launched in 2005 by the Venezuelan Ministry of Culture to acknowledge the academic work of writers whose views challenge traditional forms of political thinking.
