British Minister of Higher Education, MP David Lammy, talks about the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra and Latin America at the Bolivar Hall

The Bolivar Hall hosted a meeting between members of the national and local government and the Latin American community. This was an open meeting which included the participation of David Lammy, Minister of Higher Education and MP for Tottenham; Joanne McCartney, London National Assembly Member; George Phillips, Professor from the London School of Economics (LSE); Maxine Molyneaux, Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies and Mary Valverde, Head Teacher of Stockwell Park Secondary School.

During this meeting many Latin American residents in London put forward their views on various topics affecting Latin Americans such as education

Many Latin Americans from the audience reiterated that the government needs to analyze the position of Latin Americans in London.

The public also highlighted the issue of illegal immigrants in Great Britain and how a possible amnesty agreement could be reached to overlook these issues.

One of the most important subjects strongly expressed by the Latin American audience was how the education system could be improved in Great Britain for the future of their children in the country. They emphasized that the system must be improved so that it could give their children the right to progress on to further education. At this moment their children are not able to do so as many of their parents are recognized as illegal immigrants.

The interaction between members of public and the panel was welcomed by an open debate touching on socio-economic and political issues in the United Kingdom.

Once more the Bolivar Hall used its space to welcome the Latin American community in Great Britain.
