President Chavez activates “Guard of the People” Plan to fight against crime.
The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, activated the “ Guard of the People” Plan of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) as part of the projects implemented by the Venezuelan government to guarantee citizen security and boost the fight against crime.
From the Sucre municipality in Miranda state, the Venezuelan president stressed that GNB forces must be at the service of the organized community, as well as integrate themselves in the activities of the society.
In this sense, he urged the guards that will form these brigades to dedicate most of their daily activities to crime prevention, availing themselves of information they obtain from social intelligence.
“The Guards of the People must be like the medics of Barrio Adentro, spreading out into the neighborhoods. These Guards must be more than crime fighters, you all must prevent crime,” stated Chavez.
“This is not a type of repressive security, this is human security based on respect for life,” emphasized the head of state as he asserted that the main causes of crime in low-income areas surrounding Caracas are due to excessive consumption of alcohol, the devaluing of society and culture, and consumption of drugs.
Consequently he ordered the commanders of the People’s Guard brigades to combat illegal liquor sales that are prevalent in low-income neighborhoods of Caracas.
Finally, he instructed the Minister of People’s Power for the Interior and Justice, Tareck El Aissami, to implement a plan of disarmament and invited the community to collaborate with authorities and report illegal weapons.
