The Guardian publishes Venezuelan Ambassador's letter on aid to Haiti
The Guardian newspaper published a letter today from the Venezuelan Ambassador, Samuel Moncada, in response to an article on aid to Haiti that was published on Monday the 16th of August. The article, entitled France urged to repay billions paid by Haiti for its independence, listed the countries that had given aid to Haiti after the earthquake but failed to mention the significant aid that Venezuela has given. The Ambassador wrote: "The article could have mentioned that Venezuela cancelled its debt with Haiti on the 25th of January this year; this was $295m, about one third of its global foreign debt of $1bn.
